Certificate III in Automotive Electrical Technology

This qualification reflects the role of individuals who service, diagnose and repair electrical systems and components in vehicles in the automotive electrical service and repair industry.

Employment pathways:

Graduates may find employment in automotive Industry as a:

  • Light Vehicle Electrical Technician
  • Automotive Light Vehicle Electrical Repair Technician
  • Motor Mechanic (General)

*It is not, however, intended to indicate that an individual will gain immediate employment on completion of this qualification.

Pathways from the qualification:

Learners who successfully complete this qualification may progress into further studies such as: AUR40620 – Certificate IV in Automotive Electrical Technology.

No licensing, legislative, regulatory or certification requirements apply to this qualification at the time of publication.

RTO’s admission requirements:

The AUR30320 – Certificate III in Automotive Electrical Technology allows direct entry into this qualification at the time of publication in training.gov.au. However, the RTO requires candidates to meet its admission requirements prior to enrolling into this qualification to ensure that they have the required skills and knowledge to successfully complete the qualification at this AQF level. This consists of:

Domestic Students

 

  • Minimum age of 18 years and above
  • Satisfactory completion of the equivalent of Australian Year 11 or higher.
  • Have physical attributes suitable for working in the automotive industry that encompasses manual handling of equipment including lifting and carrying heavy objects within scope of safe working practices (i.e. removing and fitting engine electrical components and parts)

Additionally, the learner is required to:

  • Complete the Pre-Training Review which aims to identify training needs through questions on previous education or training, relevance of the courses to learner and relevant experience.
  • Complete the Language, Literacy and Numeracy (LLN) test

If the learner has done the Pre‐Training Review and LLN assessment previously at Menzies Institute of Technology for a previous qualification in the same stream enrolment, then it is not required.

International Students

 

  • Minimum age of 18 years and above
  • Satisfactory completion of the equivalent of Australian Year 11 or higher

4. Applicants originating from students visa assessment levels 1 and 2 countries without the required IELTS or equivalent score must undertake the Language, Literacy and Numeracy (LLN) test. Onshore International Students

  • Complete the Pre-Training Review which aims to identify training needs through questions on previous education or training, relevance of the courses to learner and relevant experience.

Offshore International Students

  • Complete the Pre-Training Review which aims to identify training needs through questions on previous education or training, relevance of the courses to learner and relevant experience. This will be conducted either via video call (e.g. Skype) or phone call to the prospective learner.
    If the learner has done the Pre-Training Review and LLN assessment previously at Menzies Institute of Technology for a previous qualification in the same stream enrolment then it is not required.
Other Conditions
  •  Complete the Language, Literacy and Numeracy (LLN) test prior to the commencement of the course.
  • Students required to invest approximately 8 hours a week of self directed learning to complete self-study and assessments during the training weeks and does not include the term breaks.

Course Duration:

Full time: over a period of 56 weeks

  • 56 weeks of delivery is inclusive of 9 weeks holiday breaks.
  •  Classroom sessions of 20 hours per week.
  • Training support hours include the assistance provided after the classroom session or on request by learners either via face-to-face or phone, skype or email to support learners to undertake the learning activities and other academic matters.

Note: The packaging rules applied to this qualification have resulted in their being no requirements for prerequisite or corequisite units.

Credit Transfer (CT), recognition of prior learning (RPL), professional experience and accreditation from a professional body can reduce the duration of your study by acknowledging your earlier, relevant experience. Credit and exemptions will be assessed consistent with the principles of the Menzies Institute of Technology.

Demonstration of Competence through Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) 

Your existing skills, knowledge and experience can help you get a recognised qualification, through an assessment process called Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL).  

The process could suit you if you have: 

  • paid or unpaid work experience 
  • prior formal training 
  • skills and knowledge gained on the job 
  • community work experience 
  • short course and work-based learning 
  • trade skills 
  • other life experience. 

 

Evidence you might need to supply 

Your RPL assessor will discuss with you the most appropriate evidence you can provide to support your application, this may include: 

  • work appraisals 
  • job descriptions 
  • photos or actual work samples 
  • relevant formal qualifications 
  • resume and references 
  • in-house training certificates 
  • eye witness testimonies 
  • observation at your workplace or a simulated workplace 
  • informal RPL interviews. 
Credit Transfers (CT)  

Credit Transfer is a process of recognising your previous formal studies that are equivalent to one or more units that form part of the qualification you are enrolling in. You will need to provide verified copies of Statements of Attainments or formal academic transcripts that list the units for which you are seeking Credit Transfer. We will confirm the equivalence and you will not need to repeat those units in your current study.

Information collected about an individual learner or intended applicant in Written Agreement and Acceptance of Offer and during the student enrolment, can be provided by Menzies Institute of Technology, the Commonwealth including the TPS or state or territory agencies, in certain circumstances, to the Australian Government and designated authorities; in accordance with the Privacy Act 1988. In other instances, information collected on this form or during your enrolment can be disclosed without your consent where authorised or required by law.

Under the Data Provision Requirements 2012, Menzies Institute of Technology is required to collect personal information about any individual learner or intended applicant and to disclose that personal information to the National Centre for Vocational Education Research Ltd (NCVER).

Learner’s personal information (including the personal information contained in Written Agreement and Acceptance of Offer and during the course of their study), may be used or disclosed by Menzies Institute of Technology for statistical, administrative, regulatory and research purposes. Menzies Institute of Technology may disclose your personal information for these purposes to:

  • Commonwealth and State or Territory government departments and authorised agencies; and
  • NCVER.

Personal information that has been disclosed to NCVER may be used or disclosed by NCVER for the following purposes:

  • Populating authenticated VET transcripts.
  • Facilitating statistics and research relating to education, including surveys and data linkage;
  • Pre-populating RTO student enrolment forms;
  • Understanding how the VET market operates, for policy, workforce planning and consumer information; and

– Discuss with Marketing and Admissions Staff about the course.

–  If application is accepted by Menzies, prospective student will receive the Letter of Offer.
–  Review Conditions outlined in the Letter of Offer and provide additional evidence/documents if required.
Sign and accept the Letter of Offer (LOO) which is the final stage for the applicant to understand and agree to all terms and conditions of the LOO. Then make payment as outlined in the LOO and arrange the initial payment required to confirm enrollment.
Receive Confirmation of Enrolment (CoE) and information regarding orientation day.

  • Book Flights and Arrange Accommodation – Book your flights to Melbourne and arrange accommodation for the duration of your study. If airport pickup is required, confirm arrangements with the Institute.
  • Departure & Arrival – Ensure you have packed all necessary belongings. Ensure your airport pickup and accommodation arrangements are finalised. Bring copies of your enrolment, and accommodation arrangements.
