AUR40216 Certificate IV in Automotive Mechanical Diagnosis

This qualification reflects the role of  individuals who service, diagnose and repair electrical systems and components in vehicles in the automotive electrical service and repair industry.

Employment pathways: Although it does not guarantee an employment outcome, completion of this qualification could lead to employment as an automotive electrical technician / automotive electrician.

Further study pathways: This qualification may provide a pathway to a range of Certificate IV level qualifications in the automotive electrical sector including, but not limited to, AUR40616 Certificate IV in Automotive Electrical Technology

Pre-requisite Qualification: Must have completed an automotive mechanical Certificate III qualification.

Entry Requirements

Those undertaking the AUR40216 Certificate IV in Automotive Mechanical Diagnosis must have completed an automotive mechanical Certificate III qualification, or be able to demonstrate equivalent competency.  Menzies has in place admission criteria as follows:

  • Minimum age of 18 years and above
  • Have physical attributes suitable for working in the automotive industry that encompasses manual handling of equipment including lifting and carrying heavy objects within scope of safe working practices (i.e. carrying diagnostic equipment for brakes, removing engine components and assemblies)

Additionally, the learner is required to:

  • Meet the LLN Assessment at Level 3

Course Duration

Learner’s with completion of an automotive mechanical Certificate III qualification, or be able to demonstrate equivalent competency.

Total program duration is 27 weeks for delivery and assessment this includes a total of 6 weeks of holiday breaks. The total amount of training provided is 600 hours. Following table provides a breakdown of the actual number of hours for training and assessment:

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)

Students may request recognition of prior learning (RPL) assessment. If requested, students will be provided with an RPL document allowing them to provide verifiable details of prior learning. The evidence will be assessed for currency and against requirements of the units of competency, and an amended program strategy will be prepared, taking into account the student’s prior learning. Pre- Training Review (PTR)

Provide all information and documentation as required. The prospective

learner is required to complete Pre-Training Review Form

Sit for the pre training interview to determine the suitability to the

training product. Offshore students will participate to the interview

via (video conferencing or teleconferencing)

Complete the Foundation Skills Assessment

Step 5: Submit Formal


Prospective leaner completes the International Student Application

Form and sign Privacy Notice and Student Declaration – which is the

formal application endorsement.

Step 6: Sign and accept

the Letter of Offer and Student Agreement (LOO)


This is the final stage for applicant to understand and agree to all

terms and conditions of the LOO.

Step 7: Make


As outlined in the LOO, arrange the initial payment required to

confirm enrolment.

Step 8: Receive

Confirmation of Enrolment (COE)

International COE – Confirmation of Enrolment received by student

and Arrange Accommodation

Book your flights to Melbourne and arrange accommodation for the

Ensure you have packed all necessary belongings. Ensure your airport

pickup and accommodation arrangements are finalised.
