CHC33015 Certificate III in Individual Support (Ageing, Home and Community)

This qualification reflects the role of workers in the community and/or residential setting who follow an individualised plan to provide person-centred support to people who may require support due to ageing, disability or some other reason. Work involves using discretion and judgement in relation to individual support as well as taking responsibility for own outputs. Workers have a range of factual, technical and procedural knowledge, as well as some theoretical knowledge of the concepts and practices required to provide person-centred support. To achieve this qualification, the candidate must have completed at least 120 hours of work as detailed in the Assessment Requirements of the units of competency.

Employment pathways: Although it does not guarantee an employment outcome, completion of this qualification could lead to employment as a Personal Care Assistant or Aged Care Worker.


Further study pathways: This qualification may provide a pathway to a range of Certificate IV level qualifications in the individual support sector including, but not limited to, CHC43015 Certificate IV in Ageing Support.

Entry Requirements

No specific entry requirements as per the qualification details or training package. Menzies has in place admission criteria as follows:
  • Minimum age of 18 years and above
  • Have physical attributes suitable for placement in the individual support industry that encompasses manual handling of equipment and clients (i.e. to assist a client in transferring themselves to and from beds)
Additionally, the learner is required to:
  • Meet the LLN Assessment at Level 3
  • Provide proof of up to date Immunisation.
  • Provide a satisfactory National Police Clearance / Australian Federal Police Clearance Certificate (AFP) / NCC.
  • Provide a Working with Children Check.

Course Duration

Learner’s with less than 12 months work experience Total program duration is 52 weeks for delivery and assessment this includes a total of 9 weeks of holiday breaks. The  total amount of training provided is 1200 hours. Following table provides a breakdown of the actual number of hours for training and assessment:

Learner’s with more than 12 months work experience Total program duration is 34 weeks for delivery and assessment this includes a total of 5 weeks of holiday breaks. Third Party Training and Assessment

The Institute uses the following Work Placement Providers as part of training and assessment: – Aged Care Services Australia Group (Ph: (03) 9649 2900, www.japara.com.au) – BUPA Aged Care (Ph: 1300 903 673, www.bupaagedcare.com)

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)

Students may request recognition of prior learning (RPL) assessment. If requested, students will be provided with an RPL document allowing them to provide verifiable details of prior learning. The evidence will be assessed for currency and against requirements of the units of competency, and an amended program strategy will be prepared, taking into account the student’s prior learning. The duration and the costs of an RPL procedure will depend on your level of expertise and the amount of gap training required. This course will only be delivered and assessed in Victoria and not offered for interstate students.

Note: VET Student Loans, government funded subsidy or other financial support arrangements are not available. If students are accessing any government funding entitlement, that may reduce their ability to access such funding in the future (such as arrangements that limit funding to one qualification for a person).

Following are the steps of the Admissions and Enrolment Process for Domestic Students:
Step 1: Prospective learner previews information about course and the Institute.
▪    Information sources include but not limited to online, print, seminar/exhibition & marketing event.
Step 2: Prospective learner makes an enquiry to the Institute.
▪    Prospective learners may make the inquiry using online methods (website, Facebook, email), by phone or walk-in to the Institute.
Step 3: Discuss with Marketing and Admissions Staff about the training product.
Step 4: Complete the  Pre- Training Review (PTR)
▪    Provide all information and documentation as required. The prospective learner is required to complete Pre-Training Review Form
▪    Sit for the pre training interview to determine the suitability to the training product.
▪    Complete the Foundation Skills Assessment
Step 5: Submit Formal Application
▪    Prospective leaner completes the Domestic Student Application Form and sign Privacy Notice and Student Declaration – which is the formal application endorsement.
Step 6: Sign and accept the Letter of Offer and Student Agreement (LOO)
▪    This is the final stage for applicant to understand and agree to all terms and conditions of the LOO.
Step 7: Make Payment
▪    As outlined in the LOO, arrange the initial payment required to confirm enrolment.
Step 8: Receive Confirmation of Enrolment (COE)
▪    Domestic COE – Confirmation of Enrolment received by student. Also information on Orientation Day is included.
Step 9: Attend Orientation Session
▪    Compulsory session to receive all course and student orientation information, student registration, uniform sizing and student ID cards issuance.
